A MAN who is suspected to be mentally challenged became violent and allegedly hammered his mother with a pot leading to her death early this week.
A source close to the family said the late Prisca Hombarume (54) from Nkulumane suburb in Bulawayo told her son Joshua Muchemwa (27) to go and take a bath but he refused and became violent.
His behaviour forced Hombarume to head to the police station to report him. While she was on the way to the station in the company of her tenant, Muchemwa ran after them clutching two pots and hammered them.

“The tenant managed to escape with minor injuries and ran to the police station. The granny tried to run away but Muchemwa was all over her, striking her with a pot. The granny fell to the ground and bled from the head and nose. She later died at the scene.”
B-Metro visited the family on Wednesday and mourners had gathered for the funeral wake. A representative of the family who only identified himself as Muzukuru Hombarume told B-Metro news to wait for an elder from their rural home. However, after a few hours he sent a WhatsApp message saying family members had refused to talk to the media.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident. “We urge members of the public who are taking care of mentally challenged people to monitor them and make sure they take their medication,” he said.
