A 26-YEAR-OLD woman from the Chiwundura area outside Gweru was allegedly killed by her husband over accusations of infidelity.
Midlands Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the incident.
“Another case of murder happened at Chinyama Village under Chief Gambiza, Gweru on December 20 around 11PM when a 27-year-old woman was brutally murdered by her husband following accusations of infidelity,” he said.
Insp Mahoko said the suspect in the matter is Brighton Kahlanga (31), who was the husband of the now deceased Patience Madula.
“It is alleged that the two had a misunderstanding as Kahlanga was accusing his wife of infidelity. He started assaulting his wife in the presence of his mother, who ran away and sought refuge at her neighbour’s homestead,” he said.
Insp Mahoko said during the alleged assault, Kahlanga called his brother-in-law, informing him that his wife had a boyfriend, hence he wanted to kill her and commit suicide afterwards.
“His brother-in-law rushed to the scene and found the now deceased lying unconscious in a pool of blood. She had deep cuts all over her body,” he said.
Insp Mahoko said the suspect had already disappeared from the scene, adding that a report was made to the police at Muchakata Post, who attended the scene.
“We call upon members of the public to solve disputes amicably and respect human life. May those with information concerning the whereabouts of the suspect Brighton Kahlanga pass it to any police station,” he said.
In an unrelated matter, a security guard at Tebekwe Mine in Shurugwi died after being attacked by an artisanal miner who had trespassed into the company’s gold claim through an underground tunnel on Friday night.
Tebekwe Mine chief security officer, Mr Derick Dube, said two of the illegal miners were arrested after security guards fired warning gunshots following a fierce battle that occurred in the tunnels. He identified the deceased security guard as Tirivanhu Muradzikwa.
“One of our security guards was murdered by artisanal miners who had encroached on our mine. We managed to scare them away after firing the warning shots, and they retreated, but we succeeded in arresting only two,” he said.
Despite the attacks by illegal miners, Tebekwe Mine ceded some of its mining claims to women, youth and war veterans for their empowerment.
For this festive season, the company has also continued with its philanthropy work in Zvishavane, Shurugwi and Gweru.
