A BULAWAYO man got the shock of his life when he was stabbed with a broken bottle on the left side of his stomach for accidentally spilling beer at a local nightclub. Mayibongwe Dube (19) appeared before Mrs Marilyn Mutshina charged for assaulting Mansel Mwandini (27). Prosecuting, Mr Jerry Mutsindikwa said on 11 September at around midnight, Mwandini was drinking beer with his friends at a bar when he knocked down Dube’s bottle of beer.
“Both men were drinking beer in the same bar with their friends when Mwandini accidentally knocked down Dube’s bottle of beer which was on the floor, thereby causing the beer to spill.
“This angered Dube who then ran up the stairs but surprisingly came back later holding a broken bottle which he used to stab Mwandini once on the left side of the stomach,” said Mr Mutsindikwa.
It is alleged that Dube stabbed Mwandini because he thought he knocked down his beer intentionally.
Mr Mutsindikwa said Mwandini was severely wounded and rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital where he was admitted and later discharged.
Mwandini’s medical report was produced as evidence at the court.
The magistrate, Mrs Mutshina, ordered Dube to pay a bail of $50. He was remanded out of custody to 25 September.
In an unrelated case, a Bulawayo man recently appeared before a local magistrate for allegedly teaming up with a friend and stealing two mobile phones from his employer.
Patrick Mathe (32) was charged for robbery by the magistrate, Mr Tinashe Tashaya.
Prosecuting, Mr Nkathazo Dhlodlo said on 7 September at around 4pm Nyathi met his employer, Mthuthuzeli Nyathi, at corner Herbert Chitepo Street and Fourth Avenue where he asked for $10.
“When Mathe met his employer, he asked for $10 but Nyathi stated that he had no cash with him which then made him angry.
“He then teamed up with another man and violence grabbing Nyathi by the collar, harassing him and forcing him to give them money. They took away his two Nokia 1230 mobile phones worth $50 and ran away,” said Mr Dhlodlo.
It is alleged that after 30 minutes, Nyathi was able to get hold of his employee leading to his arrest. The stolen phones were not recovered.
