A Harare man reportedly lost more than US$11 600 to a n’anga whom he approached seeking help to have his money multiply mysteriously. Aaron Banda (68) of Second Avenue in Mbare responded to an advert in a newspaper where Lloyd Mupedziswa publicised himself as a traditional healer who could solve any problems.
Mupedziswa appeared at the Chitungwiza Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday charged with fraud, with the State alleging that in February 2012, Banda approached him in Savanhu Village in Seke for help.
The court heard that Banda asked Mupedziswa if he could make his money multiply by non-natural means and he was told that for his request to be granted, he was supposed to give him US$9 000.
Banda agreed and met Mupedziswa on April 2, 2012, where he handed over US$4 200 and on July 16, he gave him US$2 834.
He gave him more money between August 30 2012 and June this year amounting to US$2 200.
After he noticed that he was not realising any changes to his savings, Banda became suspicious.
In May this year, Mupedziswa sent some newsprint cuttings the size of US currency to Banda, indicating that they would turn into US$40 000.
Besides that, Mupedziswa promised Banda a vehicle.
Appearing before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Timeon Makunde, Mupedziswa denied the fraud charges and will appear in court today for trial.
Ms Ntombikayise Nleya prosecuted.
