IN a bid to protect his two aunts from Douglas Gwanyanya, a man from Sunninghill suburb in Bulawayo was seriously injured after part of his manhood was kicked at a shebeen.
Gwanyanya appeared before a Bulawayo magistrate on an assault charge.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded out of custody to July 2 on US$30 bail. Allegations are that on June 1, 2024, around 5pm, Gwanyanya and Jeffres Hove were at a shebeen when a misunderstanding arose.
This was after Hove told Gwanyanya to stay away from his aunts, who were also drinking at the shebeen, and the suspect complied.
It is the State’s case that after a while, Gwanyanya approached Hove — who was seated — and kicked him once on the genitals and he remained calm. The suspect was restrained from further assaulting the victim.
After 30 minutes, the victim started feeling some severe pains and went home with difficulty.
The next day, around 5am, Hove woke up to some severe pain, and part of his manhood was swollen. He was taken to United Bulawayo Hospital where he was informed by doctors that his right side was severely damaged and irreparable.
A surgical operation was conducted, resulting in him losing part of his manhood. He was discharged from hospital on June 13, 2024.
The matter was reported to the police and investigations were carried out, leading to the arrest of the culprit. — B-Metro

Pastor impregnates minor stepdaughter
A pastor who has been on the run after he reportedly raped and impregnated his 12-year-old stepdaughter has been arrested at his hideout in Beitbridge, Matabeleland South province.
The 41-year-old man of the cloth, whose name is not being disclosed for ethical reasons, is from Victoria Falls in Matabeleland North province and was staying with his wife and the child.
A source close to investigations into the matter said the man allegedly started sexually attacking the minor in January this year and turned her into a sex slave. The man would attack her whenever his wife had gone somewhere.
The source further said the man would issue death threats to her whenever he was about to sexually attack her.
“The pastor would place the knife under the pillow when he was about to sexually attack her on his matrimonial bed. After every sexual attack, he would threaten to stab her to death if ever she disclosed the ordeal to anyone,” said the source.
The alleged rape ordeal came to light when the minor started to vomit and suffered stomach cramps.
“Her concerned mother rushed her to hospital, where she was examined and pregnancy tests were done. It was discovered that she was two months pregnant. She quizzed her about who had impregnated her. The girl revealed that she was raped by her stepdad on several occasions,” said the source.
On May 26, the mother of the minor confronted her husband over the matter and he immediately fled and went into hiding.
After a week, he allegedly sent his wife a string of WhatsApp audio messages confessing that he had sexually attacked his stepdaughter, said the source. He also issued an apology, claiming demons had pushed him to commit the crime.
His wife reported the case to the police.
In the messages to his wife, he claimed he had crossed the border to Zambia to “cool off”, promising to come back and hand himself over to the police.
However, detectives swooped on him in Beitbridge, about 755 kilometres away, leading to suspicion that he wanted to flee to South Africa.
Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda confirmed the incident.
“Whenever a child is sexually violated, parents or guardians should not resort to kangaroo courts or sweep the rape ordeal under the carpet in a bid to protect the alleged offender. But they should emulate what the mother of the victim did and report the case to the police,” said Insp Banda. — Bulawayo Bureau

Rejected lover’s stabbing spree lands him in jail
A violent man who caused a scene at the Fort Rixon Business Centre, indiscriminately stabbing his love rival and his girlfriend before assaulting and chasing a police officer, has been convicted and sentenced to two years behind bars.
Denis Moyo (26) from Shangani in Matabeleland South province appeared on several occasions before a Bulawayo regional magistrate on a charge of attempted murder, two counts of assault and a charge of unlawful entry committed in aggravating circumstances and malicious damage to property.
He pleaded not guilty to all the charges but after a trial, he was found guilty of attempted murder and malicious damage to
property.
For the attempted murder charge, he was slapped with a five-year jail sentence, of which three years were suspended on condition he does not commit a similar offence within five years.
For the malicious damage to property charge, he was fined US$100.
He was acquitted of two counts of assault and unlawful entry committed in aggravating circumstances.
A court heard that on February 4 this year, Moyo confronted his love rival Bhekisisa Nkomo and accused him of snatching his lover Sharon Mkandla from him.
It is said the two were later involved in a fierce argument, and Moyo took a knife out of his trouser pocket and allegedly stabbed his rival several times all over the body. After that, he then went after Mkandla and knifed her on the buttocks while she was running for dear life.
Seeing Moyo going on the rampage, a police officer tried to intervene and arrest him, but his mission was aborted as Moyo overpowered him and threatened to stab him before punching him, the court heard.
He was not done yet as he pounced on Nkomo’s shop, smashed the window panes and went to a butchery, where he entered and ransacked the office.
However, he did not take anything from the office. A resident then reported him to the police, leading to his arrest. — B-Metro
