A 57-YEAR-OLD Honde Valley man lost three teeth after he was brutally assaulted by a fellow villager.
Misheck Mukwata (21) of Mandiopera Village under Headman Samanga allegedly struck Moses Tiriwepi several times on his face with a metal bar, resulting in him losing three teeth as well as sustaining deep cuts on his face.
Appearing before senior Mutare magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura, Mukwata denied the allegations and argued that they were fighting.
It was the State’s case led by Mr Donald Mudadirwa that on July 24, Tiriwepi was in the company of other teachers from St Columbus High School proceeding home in Muparutsa Village which is also under Headman Samanga when he was attacked.
It is alleged that when Tiriwepi was alone and approaching Hauna Phase 2, he was attacked by Mukwata who laid in ambush in the bushes.
He was struck with a metal bar resulting in him falling down and lost consciousness.
“Mukwati continued assaulting him with an unknown object.
“Tiriwepi was saved by a kombi that came from behind and flashed lights on Mukwati who took to his heels.
“Stephen Mboto, the kombi driver assisted Tiriwepi to make a police report as well as seeking medication.
“Mukwati dropped his black woolen hat which was used by police to track him,” said Mr Mudadirwa.
Mrs Chiundura adjourned the matter to August 18 waiting for Tiriwepi’s medical report.
