A 38-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man has appeared in court for allegedly lifting and repeatedly throwing his juvenile neighbour to the ground, claiming he mistook the child for a goblin.
Senzile Nyathi of Mabutweni suburb appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube, facing an attempted murder charge.
He was remanded in custody to January 8.
According to court papers, the incident occurred on Christmas Day at around 10PM when the complainant, a juvenile, was playing in an open space near his home.
The court heard that Nyathi, who was allegedly drunk, approached the child and shouted in IsiNdebele: “Nangu undofa,” meaning “here is a goblin.”
“Immediately after shouting those words, the accused went where the complainant was, lifted him and threw him to the ground three times,” read the court papers.
The child sustained a head injury and was rushed to hospital for medical attention.
A police report was later filed leading to Nyathi’s arrest.
In an unrelated matter, a 19-year-old Tsholotsho man also appeared before the same court facing an attempted murder charge after allegedly stabbing his neighbour three times with a knife on Christmas Day.
Mengezi Ookeditse Masuku was remanded in custody to January 9.
Court papers allege that at around 9PM, near Zulukandaba Primary School in Entumbane suburb, Masuku had a misunderstanding with the complainant, Mr Brighton Dahwa (25), over an unknown issue.
The dispute allegedly escalated, prompting Masuku to produce a knife and stab Mr Dahwa three times on the back.
Mr Dahwa was rushed to hospital for treatment and a police report was filed leading to Masuku’s arrest.
