A 32-YEAR-OLD man from Mberengwa in Midlands province has been slapped with a six-year jail sentence for stabbing a villager with a knife in a dispute over a field boundary.
Fortune Hove appeared before a Mberengwa magistrate facing a charge of attempted murder. He was convicted and sentenced.
Two years of his sentence was suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour, he will therefore serve an effective four years in prison.
The court heard that on 24 August 2024, at around 7pm Hove went to the victim’s place of residence and asked the victim to accompany him to his homestead.
On their way, Hove started accusing him of clearing his field on the boundary and this led to a heated argument.
The culprit pulled out a knife from his pocket and stabbed the victim once on the neck. The matter was reported to the police leading to Hove’s arrest.
