A HARARE man said he could only offer US$10 maintenance for the upkeep of his three kids.
Leonard Chikwakwata was accused by his ex-wife, Paidamoyo Mtarahwayi, of neglecting his duties as a father.
Paidamoyo demanded $120 000 for their three minor kids.
“He is a welder and earns a lot of money.
“When we were still together, he used to earn $300 000, but he is refusing to pay maintenance.
“I approached him once and he said he wants nothing to do with me or the kids.
“Your Worship, he says that the children are not his, but he knows very well that they are his,” she said.
Leonard said he can only afford to pay US$10 since he was told that the kids were not his.
“Your Worship, I barely earn any money because I’m unemployed, I weld here and there.
“I was told many times by Paidamoyo that the kids are not mine, so why should I put in the effort?
“Wherever I go, people tell me that she is for the streets so how will l know the kids are mine?”
Presiding magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini postponed the matter to Friday.
