A MAN who was out on bail for 10 counts of unlawful entry and theft involving goods worth about $10 000, was arrested again for allegedly stealing 22 laptops worth $11 500 from Bulawayo`s Compu plus shop.
Adornia Mashonga (33), whose address was given as corner Robert Mugabe Way and 3rd Avenue, was arrested last month for allegedly stealing property worth more than $10 000 from shops in the Bulawayo Central Business District that include Fazak Gift Centre and TV Sales and Home between June and July this year.
He was granted $100 bail and was supposed to appear in court on Wednesday this week for trial.
Police investigations linked Mashonga to fresh allegations of stealing laptops worth $11 500 from Compu plus shop in August this year.
Last Friday he appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate Mr Tinashe Tashaya facing two counts of unlawful entry and theft.
He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody to January 3.
“I’m pleading not guilty. I’m facing similar charges in court six and l was granted $100 bail. May l be remanded out of custody because l paid bail,” said Mashonga.
Prosecuting Mr Best Hwete said on August 5, Mashonga unlawfully entered Compu plus shop which is between 11th and 12th Avenue.
“He used duplicate keys to open the sanitary gate, climbed on top of the roof where he cut a roofing sheet and got in. He then broke the ceiling to gain entry into the shop. While inside, the accused person deactivated the alarm system and blinded the cameras by twisting them,” said Mr Hwete.
He then allegedly stole 11 HP laptops, three Lenovo laptops, two Lenovo tablets, two Dell laptops, two ASUS laptops and a Samsung laptop all worth $11 500.
Mr Hwete said police picked Mashonga`s finger prints on a glass display cabinet in the shop.
He said after his arrest, Mashonga admitted that he sold the laptops to a Beitbridge dealer.
Mashonga appeared before Magistrate Mr Manasa Musiiwa last month accused of stealing electricity gadgets including more than 222 cellphones, external hard drives, flash disk, computers and power banks worth $10 000.
