A MAN from Harare has been ordered to pay US$60 monthly maintenance and 50 percent of his children’s school fees after his former partner took him to the Harare Civil Court.
Coaster Kabara was ordered to pay the money after Venencia Muringa took her to court seeking $200 monthly maintenance for their two children, aged 11 and 8.
Muringa told Magistrate Hannah Fazilahamed that she needed the money to cover the children’s school fees and for their upkeep.
She also alleged that Kabara had fallen behind on school fees payments and owed US$150.
Kabara, however, argued that he was unable to meet the claim, saying he relies on financial assistance from his relatives after he was involved in an accident in 2022 in which his legs were injured.
“I can’t stand for more than six minutes, so I can’t work,” he told the court.
Kabara offered to pay only half of the children’s school fees.
Muringa insisted that the arrears and daily needs of the children required consistent support
Kabara maintained that he would have to ask the same relatives for help to cover the outstanding fees.
After hearing both parties, presiding Magistrate Fazilahamed ordered Kabara to pay US$60 monthly maintenance and 50 percent of the children’s school fees, which must be paid directly into the school account.
