A MAN from Emakhandeni suburb is fighting for his life at Mpilo Central Hospital after he was hit several times with a log on the head by his neighbour following a misunderstanding over firewood.
The incident which happened on 7 January was confirmed by Bulawayo acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele.
“I can confirm that we have arrested a man who attacked his fellow resident over firewood,” she said.
She discouraged members of the public from taking law into their own hands.
“We would like to discourage members of the public from taking the law into their own hands as that might lead to unnecessary loss of life.
I would like to urge community members to engage third parties like elders in the community or police so as to solve their dispute amicably,” she said.
A source said Kholwani Ncube (18) and Ndabezinhle Nsingo (24) were involved in a fierce argument over firewood.
It is alleged that the situation spiraled out of control when Ncube picked up a log and allegedly hit Nsingo on the head with it several times causing him to tumble to the ground.
It is reported that he bled profusely before falling unconscious.
After that Ncube bolted out of the shop and ran away.
A fellow resident stepped in and rushed Ncube to Mpilo Central Hospital for medical help.
The incident was reported to the police leading to Nsingo’s arrest.
