Man pays wife not to report him for abusive tendencies

A HARARE woman claimed her husband, who has not been maintaining his family, actually gave her money to entice her not to report the abuse he inflicts on them.

She has been granted a protection order against her abusive husband.

Isabel Makume hauled her husband, Clemence Mandinza, to the Harare Civil Court claiming that he verbally and physically abused her.

“We are married, and he is in the habit of assaulting and insulting me.

“At one time, he chased me from our matrimonial home after we had an altercation.

“We were in the maintenance court some time ago and he is not paying anything.

“Whenever I try to report the matter, he gave me some money so that I should not report him.”

In his defence, Clemence said he only pushed Isabel once after they had an argument, but he never assaulted her.

“I never assaulted her but I only pushed her once, she is lying, in marriage, couples fight.

“I am failing to support my kids but when things get well, I will support them.”

Magistrate Sharon Mashavira granted Isabel the protection order.
