Man posts security threat to PM on Facebook

Bulawayo Bureau
A 39-year-old Bulawayo man has been arraigned before the courts for allegedly sending a State security threat message to Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s Facebook wall using his cellphone.
This is probably Zimbabwe’s first Facebook-related arrest.
Vikas Mavhudzi of 948/2 Old Magwegwe is being charged with contravening Section 22(2)(a)(ii) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform), Act (Chapter 9:23) for “subverting a constitutional Government”.
Mavhudzi briefly appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Gideon Ruvetsa on Thursday and was remanded in custody to March 9 after the State opposed bail.
Prosecutor Mr Jeremiah Mutsindikwa says Mavhudzi sent a message using his phone to Mr Tsvangirai’s wall advocating or attempting to take over Government through unconstitutional means.
It is alleged that a police officer received an anonymous call on February 24 that the accused had sent a security threat message through his mobile phone.
Mavhudzi was arrested and upon sifting through his phone, the policeman found the message to PM Tsvangiria’s Facebook wall was sent on February 13 at about 2pm, it is alleged.
The message read: “I am overwhelmed, I don’t want to say Mr or PM what happened in Egypt is sending shockwaves to dictators around the world. No weapon but unity of purpose worth emulating hey.”
