Man protected against abusive wife

A GWANDA man has been granted a protection order against his abusive wife whom he said had a tendency of harassing, assaulting and insulting him.

Christopher Ncube, 45, a Gwanda Rural District Council security guard, told magistrate Olivia Mashava Mashaire on Tuesday that he can no longer stand being abused by his wife, Witness Ndlovu, as the abuse has been going on since 2012.

In his application for a protection order, Ncube said he was no longer happy at his home as Ndlovu harasses, assaults and insults him whenever she feels like.He said at one time he sought medical attention after he was bashed by his wife whom he has a child with.

Ncube showed the magistrate his medical records detailing treatment for injuries suffered at the hands of his wife whom he said also insults him with unprintable words.

“I’m appealing to this court to stop the respondent from harassing, assaulting and insulting me. She has been doing this on several occasions because initially I was so embarrassed to tell other people that I was being assaulted by my wife,” he said.

“At one time she stabbed me with a fork on my face. As you can see I’ve some marks on my face, it’s because of her.

In another incident, she struck me with a cooking stick on my head until it broke. I also lost a middle toe on my left foot and this again was because of the assaults by the respondent.”

Ncube said Ndlovu did not choose words when speaking to him. He said of late, they have not been staying together.

“One day she insulted me until she told me that she now has a new man in her life who is a headmaster. She said she would leave me and get married to this man who will give her a better life,” he added.

Ndlovu, however, denied the claims.“It’s not true that I assaulted my husband but instead he is the one who assaults me. The problem is that he sometimes gets drunk to a point that he loses balance when walking. All these bruises he is talking about were a result of him falling to the ground when drunk. As for the toe, he injured himself when he was working in the garden,” she said.

The magistrate granted Ncube a protection order and asked Ndlovu to stop assaulting, insulting and harassing her husband.
