A 50-YEAR-OLD man from Chief Bankwe’s area in Mberengwa has been caged for 20 years after he pounced on his nonagenarian neighbour and raped her in a shocking late-night attack.
The vile act took place on June 11, 2025, when the frail 90-year-old grandmother was asleep in her bedroom hut.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the man pretended to be the victim’s grandson to gain entry.
“At around 9pm, the offender knocked, claiming to be the victim’s grandson. The victim realised it was not her grandson through a small opening on the door and refused to open,” said the NPAZ.
However, the predator would not be deterred. He allegedly forced his way inside, overpowered the elderly woman, shoved her to the ground and sexually assaulted her.
“The victim tried to scream for help but her cries went unanswered,” added the NPAZ.
The following morning, the traumatised granny confided in a neighbour, who immediately accompanied her to the police station. The accused was arrested the same day.
He was dragged before the Zvishavane Regional Magistrates’ Court where his vile actions earned him two decades behind bars.
