A man from Pumula East in Bulawayo has appeared in court on allegations of repeatedly raping his long-time lover’s 10-year-old daughter.
The matter came to light when the man appeared before West Commonage magistrate Mr Stephen Ndlovu facing charges of rape. He was remanded in custody to Tuesday for trial.
Prosecuting Mr Brian Nkala told the court that on a date unknown but during the period extending from 2016 to March 2018, the accused repeatedly raped the girl who is doing Grade Four on her way to school. The girl narrated the ordeal to her mother who then took her to the hospital for treatment.
Further, the court heard that in March this year, the accused told people at his home that he was going out on an errand when he had actually followed the girl on her way to school. The court heard that the man met the girl near Old Pumula where he dragged her to the bush and raped her. He allegedly threatened to kill the girl if ever she told someone.
She later reported the matter to the police, leading to the arrest of the man.
