Man rapes neighbour’s pregnant wife

Sherzadee Mukwamba
AN ODZI man recently appeared in court for allegedly raping his neighbour’s pregnant wife on August 8.

Devaries Chaibva (41) of Sonopy Village is alleged to have taken advantage of his neighbour’s absence to pounce on the vulnerable woman.

It is alleged that Chaibva went to his neighbour’s homestead and knocked at the complainant’s bedroom door.

The complainant then asked who it was, but Chaibva did not answer.

The accused then forcibly entered the room, dragged her outside at knife point and raped her.

However, he was caught by a fellow villager who came to the rescue.

It is alleged that the accused person further threatened to stab the villager with a knife.

The complainant reported the case the following day at Odzi Police Station.

Chaibva denied the allegations.

He said he was in love with the complainant and had consented to the sex.

Chaibva said the complainant only started screaming for help when she realised that they had been caught in the act by the villager.

He told the court that she was now turning the tables against him in a bid to save her marriage.

Chaibva was granted $50 bail.

The matter was remanded to September 14.

Senior Mutare magistrate, Mrs Sekesai Chiundura presided over the matter, while Mr Donald Mudadirwa prosecuted.
