A 55-YEAR-OLD man recently lost money and a car to people whom he had offered a lift to Chironde along Unki Mine Road in Shurugwi.

Midlands Police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, said the incident took place on the 15th of this month along Unki Mine Road at around 8 pm.

“The complainant in the matter, Herbert Mbayimbayi of Unki Mine Compound, was driving a Toyota Runx along Unki Mine Road when he offered a lift to three men,” he said.

“After driving for a few kilometres from the pick-up point, one of the three men who was seated at the back passenger seat produced a knife and pointed it at Mbayimbayi’s neck. He instructed him to turn left into Lucilia Dam Road and he complied.”

He said after travelling for about eight kilometres, they ordered him to stop the vehicle and forced him out of his car.

“The three ransacked the car and took US$35 from Mbayimbayi and drove back towards Unki Road in his vehicle, leaving him behind.”

Mbayimbayi followed and found the car dumped about a kilometre from where he was robbed,” he said.

Insp Mahoko warned motorists against offering lifts to strangers, be it for free or for a fare, as some of them may have bad intentions.
