A BULAWAYO man has appeared in court accused of accruing US$20,000 in maintenance arrears. Dean Anthony Thedvall, an employee at Drummond, a poultry company in Bulawayo, and Tammy Rose Thedvall (nee Maas) got a divorce in January last year at the High Court in Harare. At the time of the divorce, he was ordered to pay $500 monthly maintenance for each of his two minor children and $500 towards his ex-wife backdated to November 2012, but he allegedly failed to do so.
Through her lawyer, Tapiwa Muchineripi, Rose applied for a garnishee order.
Rose also alleges that Dean took custody of one of their children in January last year.
“He hasn’t been paying maintenance consistently and he’s in arrears of $19,245 . . . it would be in the best interest of our minor child if Drummond deducts maintenance money from Dean Thedvall’s salary as he doesn’t want to abide by the court order,” added Rose. Magistrate Tinashe Tashaya postponed the matter to tomorrow.
