A BULAWAYO woman was recently scalded with hot porridge on her right cheek and neck after trying to snatch a plate her stepson was eating from. This emerged when Nokuthula Mpofu, of Nkulumane suburb, appeared before Ms Evelyn Mashavakure seeking eviction and protection orders for her stepson, Victor (24). She alleged that her stepson was violent and always beat her up.
She told the court that she did not report the matter because it was handled by their family members who said Victor should be reprimanded.
“Your Worship, I took care of this child since he was in Grade Five. I am still staying with him today. He is very abusive. He abuses me and the children. He always beats them up and sometimes beats me up as well,” she said.
“He doesn’t care whether there are people around or not and he does not care about where he is. He insults and assaults me in public.”
When the magistrate asked her if Victor can be allowed to visit since she wanted him evicted, she said she no longer wanted to see him.
Victor denied the allegations of scalding his stepmother with porridge, saying it was an accident.
“Your Worship, what happened is she came in the kitchen and found me eating porridge. I was holding the lunch box full of hot porridge and she snatched it from me and it spilt on her and the children that were seated behind her. We all got burnt,” he said.
He said he did not have a problem with moving out, stating that everyone wanted him out of the house.
“I assaulted my sister because she brought a boy in the house at night. When I confronted the boy, he kicked me and I fell down then he ran away. I even called them to come and see what had happened.”
The magistrate referred them for counselling.
“I will grant the protection order and in the mean time you two will go for counselling. You will come back on April 29.”
