A HARARE man has appeared in court accused of selling his father’s phone and household properties to fund his drug addiction.

Angelina Mukurunyorova dragged her son, Josphat, before Harare magistrate Meenal Narotam who granted her a protection order. She told the court that Josphat has also developed a habit of intimidating and threatening to kill her with a kitchen knife.

“I am now afraid to be around him, he has become so aggressive, he no longer respects me as his mother.

“He demands money from me and whenever I fail to give him any, he threatens me or ends up selling my household property.

“Last weekend he sold his father’s phone, an empty drum and a packet of sugar,” said Angelina. She added:

“He is now unpredictable and most of the time it’s just me and him in the house hence I am afraid he might harm me.”

Josphat claimed his mother just wants him to leave the house and find his own place.

“I have never sold my mother’s property.

“She just wants to find a way to evict me from her home,” said Josphat.

Magistrate Narotam ordered Josphat to maintain peace, not to abuse his mother and stop selling her property without her consent.
