A MORNINGSIDE taxi driver is counting his losses and nursing the trauma he endured after a terrifying early morning robbery here in Bulawayo.
The 30-year-old InDrive operator fell victim to a suspected trap after being called to pick up a female passenger from Palace Hotel.
According to police reports, the incident occurred at approximately 4am on Sunday.
The driver accepted a request to ferry the woman.
But as he dropped her off along Park Road, his worst fears came true.
“Three men suddenly appeared from nowhere, like ghosts in the dark,” a police source revealed. “They opened his car doors and flashed those nasty okapi knives.
“Imagine the fear.”
The driver was warned to keep quiet as the trio ransacked his vehicle.
They made off with a Huawei P40 cellphone, a small bag, US$90 in cash, a modulator and even a 5-litre container of engine oil.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said:
“We appeal to taxi drivers to be careful of the people they engage.
“These criminals are targeting you.
“We urge them to install trackers on their vehicles for their own safety.
“We appeal to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the accused persons to come forward and assist with our investigations.”
As of yesterday, no arrests had been made.
