MAN SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS OVER TELECOMS CABLES

A 32-YEAR-OLD man from Domboramwari has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for unlawfully removing telecommunications cables, a violation of the Postal and Telecommunications Act Chapter 12:05.

Arnold Chiito was arraigned before the Chitungwiza Magistrates’ Court after an incident on August 6.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) confirmed:

“At around 10 pm, a telecommunications company was advised by a customer that internet connectivity was disconnected.

“Upon investigation, on where the fault was, the complainant discovered Chiito and his accomplices, who remain at large, removing optic fiber cables at Mupfure Bridge along the Harare-Masvingo highway.”

Following the report, police swiftly responded and apprehended Chiito at the crime scene.

The police recovered a significant amount of stolen equipment, including an optic fiber link and 13 ×6m sections of 6-inch G-1 galvanized pipes, valued at approximately US$11 215.
