Man sentenced to six years for attempted rape

A 29-YEAR-OLD man from Tshabalala suburb in Bulawayo who used Christmas lights to lure a neighbour’s nine- year old daughter to his house and attempted to rape her, has been sentenced to six years in prison.

The man, whose name has been withheld to protect the identity of the child, lured the girl who was was in the company of her two cousins also aged nine years, to his bedroom.

The court heard that the other two girls peeped through the bedroom window while he sexually abused the minor.

The man who pleaded not guilty to atttempted rape was, however, convicted by Bulawayo regional magistrate Mr Joseph Mabeza.

He was sentenced to six years imprisonment but will, however, serve an affective four years after two years were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
