A MARRIED man assaulted his former lover after she refused to talk to him when he followed her while she was walking with her uncle.

Anderson Sibanda, 53, attacked Sibusiso Ndlovu, 37, with a beer bottle before he punched her several times all over the body.

Sibanda was convicted on his own plea of guilty to physical abuse by Western Commonage magistrate, Sibongile Msipa-Marondedze.

He was fined $100 and in addition was sentenced to 30 days imprisonment which was wholly suspended on condition of good behaviour.

In passing sentence, magistrate Msipa-Marondedze advised Sibanda to be faithful to his wife.

“Be faithful to your wife. What do you get from a girlfriend that your wife can’t give you? What’s however in your favour is that you’re a first offender who pleaded guilty to the charge and therefore didn’t waste the court’s time,” she said.

Prosecuting, Maria John said on July 10, this year, Sibanda met Ndlovu who was walking with her uncle.

“Sibanda ordered Ndlovu to come to where he was standing but she refused,” said John.

She said a misunderstanding arose and Sibanda hit Ndlovu with a beer bottle before using fists to assault her all over the body.

The matter was reported to the police leading to Sibanda’s arrest.
