TWO Zimbabwe Women’s Premier Volleyball League sides declared themselves ready for the weekend programme that will bring all top sides to Bulawayo.
For two days, Saturday and Sunday, the clubs will battle it out at Hillside Teachers’ College Courts as they want to improve their league positions.
On Thursday Southern Aces of Masvingo played against Bulawayo’s Chimoio Ladies in a best of five sets as both clubs put finishing touches to their readiness for the national league challenge.
The visitors won 3-0.
Chimoio’s Stan Manduna declared themselves more than prepared for the challenges in both the men and women’s categories.
“We have been camping for the past three weeks and our players who are based outside Bulawayo managed to come for the camping,” said Manduna.
One player came from Hwange and the other rejoined from the University of Zimbabwe. He said the club had also promoted one player from their junior development.
Sibonginkosi Siziba has bolstered the team arriving from sister club Lycans and one player also joining from South Africa.
Manduna was full of praise for the Bulawayo business community for supporting the team’s camp.
The men’s team is at the top of the standings while their women’s is ninth.
Southern Aces assistant coach, Anesu Taziva said: “My team is prepared after playing in a tournament in Gweru where we finished second.”

Meanwhile the Zimbabwe men’s volleyball team, the Eagles, have intensified their preparations for the upcoming 2026 CAVB Men’s African Nations Volleyball Championship set for September in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Some of the top players will benefit from the national league games in Bulawayo this weekend.
The Democratic Republic of Congo tournament is set to run from September 7 to 21 in Kinshasa and will bring together Africa’s top 16 nations all bidding to qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
Zimbabwe secured their place after a tough 3-2 victory over Zambia in the CAVB Zone VI Olympic qualifiers final held at Sunrise Sports Club in Harare in June.
The 14-man squad is led by head coach Itsanangu Abu Basutu.
