Man stabs cousin in beer brawl

Fortune Ndlovu allegedly stabbed his cousin, Mr Zanda Moyo, on Thursday night at Muza Bottlestore in Ntabazinduna after the two exchanged harsh words.

Mr Moyo is now fighting for life at Mpilo Central Hospital.

Matabeleland North police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Siphiwe Makonese confirmed the incident yesterday.

“The two men were drinking beer at a bottlestore in Ntabazinduna at about 7pm when a dispute erupted between them. The accused man dragged his cousin out of the bottlestore and they continued arguing over an undisclosed issue,” said Asst Insp Makonese.

She said after a few minutes Ndlovu produced an object and stabbed his cousin once in the stomach.

“Their fight continued for some minutes until Ndlovu produced an unknown object and stabbed his cousin once in the stomach.

The man was rescued by people who were nearby who made a report to the police at Mbembesi leading to the arrest of the accused,” said Asst Insp Makonese.

She said police attended the scene and arrested Ndlovu and referred his cousin to Mpilo Central Hospital.

“The complainant sustained serious injuries on the stomach and he is in a critical condition at Mpilo. His cousin is under police custody and will soon appear in court facing an attempted murder charge,” said Asst Insp Makonese.

She urged villagers to desist from violence and carrying dangerous objects.

“Carrying offensive objects leads to violence. People should stop carrying such objects and should consult a third party or a professional so that they solve  their disputes amicably,” said Asst Insp Makonese.
