A MAN was arrested for stealing from himself.
Dylan Nkomo from Mpopoma in Bulawayo took advantage of his wifea��s absence and stole their bedding which he sold to pay a debt.
When his wife, Thobekile Tshuma returned from a visit in Tsholotsho she found that all blankets, linen and pillows were missing from the house.
She confronted him about the issue and he said that thieves got in and stole the blankets.
Tshuma reported the matter to the police who carried out investigations and it was discovered that people who were in possession of the blankets bought them from Nkomo.
He was then arrested and he appeared in court before Bulawayo magistrate Tinashe Tashaya on charges of theft.
a�?Your worship, I owed a few people money and they were on my case so I decided to sell the blankets and raise it. I thought it was better for me to sell the blankets because I knew I would buy new ones soon. I dona��t understand why my wife is overreacting,a�? he said in court.
Tshuma said she didna��t know she had married a dishonest man.
a�?Your worship, I dona��t get why my own husband didna��t tell me he had debts and had to sell our blankets. If he had told me I was going to help him but Ia��m only hearing about his debt problems here in court and it hurts,a�? said Tshuma.
The magistrate advised Nkomo to learn to share his problems with his wife.
a�?Mr Nkomo, you should communicate with your wife because lies will only lead you to trouble,a�? said Tashaya.
Nkomo was remanded out of custody to 30 January. .
