SHOW-off tendencies led a man to steal chickens with intention to buy booze and drink much to the envy of his stingy friends.
Mthulisi Ndlovu (19) from Zhombe’s Mbanda Village under Chief Malisa went to one Elliot Mabhena’s homestead at dawn and made off with two chickens. But the “cluck cluck” noise made by the chickens awoke Mabhena who then saw a man running away with his chickens. In the morning he followed footsteps that led him to Ndlovu’s homestead. He found his livestock still in Ndlovu’s possession.
A police report was made leading to his arrest.
Appearing before Kwekwe Magistrate Tayengwa Sangster, Ndlovu said he stole because he was tired of watching others drink while he couldn’t afford.
“My friends were in the habit of drinking their beer in my face so I decided to steal chickens to buy my own beer and drink in their faces, unfortunately I was apprehended before I could not accomplish the mission,” he said.
Ndlovu was sentenced to 105 hours community service with the magistrate considering that he was a first offender who did not waste the court’s time.
