A NIGHT-TIME sneak thief from Ntabazinduna has been busted after swiping his neighbour’s cellphone through an unlocked kitchen door.

Phakamile Sibanda (29) appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate Maxwell Ncube, who slapped him with a $300 fine or five months behind bars if he fails to pay.

Prosecutor Mehluli Ndlovu said on 4 September, Sibanda crept into his neighbour Vusumuzi Mlotshwa’s house under the cover of darkness.

Spotting a Huawei cellphone on a window ledge, Sibanda quickly grabbed it before slipping away into the night.

Mlotshwa acted fast. He rushed to the police to file a report. Following a swift investigation, officers tracked down Sibanda and arrested him.

The stolen phone, valued at $80, was recovered in full working condition.

Sibanda’s brief moment of triumph came to an abrupt end when he was marched to court to face justice.

His neighbour is now breathing a sigh of relief, while Sibanda pays the price for his sneaky late-night crime.
