A BULAWAYO man has been sentenced to 105 hours of community service for stealing an electric scissors from his tenant so that he could raise money to buy anti-retroviral drugs. Sindiso Ncube (27) of 1115 Nkulumane suburb was convicted on his own plea of guilty to theft when he appeared before Western Commonage magistrate, Mr Victor Mpofu on Wednesday.
Ncube will do the community service at Amaveni Primary School in the suburb.
In mitigation, Ncube, who was recently in South Africa pleaded with the court for leniency, arguing that he was not aware of the required procedures to access free drugs under the Government funded ART programme.
The prosecutor, Mr Watmore Tembo, said on 25 May, the complainant Mr Liberty Chivanga who is a barber knocked off and left his tools of the trade at Ncube’s home where he is renting.
The court was told that Ncube then went on to steal an electric scissors and two bulbs from the complainant with the intention of selling the items.
The complainant discovered that his property was missing and reported the matter to the police leading to Ncube’s arrest.
