A VICTORIA Falls man has appeared in court on allegations of threatening to axe his wife whom he accused of being abusive.

Karate Moyo (40) of 7658 in Mkhosana suburb appeared before Victoria Falls Magistrate Ms Rangarirai Gakanje facing charges of physical abuse.

Moyo pleaded not guilty saying he only wanted to question his wife Mrs Sithandazile Moyo (37) on why she and her unnamed friend had assaulted him the previous day. The reason for the alleged assault was not mentioned in court.

Mrs Moyo denied beating up her husband.

“I never intended to axe her. I only approached her while she was walking with her workmate, Stella Sibanda intending to talk to her, but they started running away when they saw that I was carrying an axe and that is when I chased after them. The axe was not meant to attack her, but I was coming from a casual job,” said Moyo.

The magistrate remanded him out of custody to today for sentence.

While Moyo told the court that his wife and Ms Sibanda started running away upon seeing him, the two women told a different story while testifying in court.

“He started chasing after me while carrying an axe and we fled for our lives as he was shouting ngizakubamba kuphela,” said Mrs Moyo.

Prosecuting Mr Listen Nare said the incident occurred on June 12.—@nonsy_m
