IN what could easily be called the most extreme portion control drama of the year, a 26-year-old Bulawayo man was fined US$105 after threatening to kill his sister with an axe over food.
Brandon Ngwenya of Nkulumane 5 appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube, facing a charge of domestic violence. Ngwenya, who pleaded guilty, was ordered to pay the fine. If he fails, he will spend 30 days behind bars — proof that an axe over lunch doesn’t exactly pay for itself.

Prosecutor Cathrine Kuzu told the court that on November 30, at their shared home, Brandon and his sister, Happiness Ngwenya (28) got into a heated dispute over food portions.
Instead of taking a deep breath, Brandon apparently thought grabbing an axe would help him win the argument. Kuzu said he threatened to kill his sister with the weapon.
Happiness did the most sensible thing and reported him to the police, leading to Brandon’s swift arrest.
Now Brandon knows that next time he’s hungry and feeling dramatic, the court recommends a fork, not an axe.
