A MAN stunned the courts and his community after unleashing a foul mouthed tirade against his mother, a shocking act that breaks sacred African taboos and is said to invite curses upon the offender.
Singazi Ncube (43) from Matjinge Village in Bulilima District, Matabeleland South, has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for assaulting and grotesquely insulting his mother, even threatening to tear her private parts.
He appeared before Plumtree Magistrates Joshua Nembaware who heard how the man crossed lines that African culture has guarded for generations. In many communities, insulting a parent, especially a mother, is seen as a spiritual offence believed to bring misfortune, illness and ancestral punishment.
On 9 February 2026 at around 4PM, Ncube attacked his mother, Ntombiyejele Ncube, striking her twice with a brick. Before the assault, he shouted a vile threat, translated in court as “Today I will cut your v*g*n* into two parts.”
The court described the words as filthy and unthinkable, saying no man in his right mind would direct such language at the woman who gave him life.
Ncube was charged with physical abuse as defined in Section 3 (1) (a) of the Domestic Violence Act Chapter 5:16.
He was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment. Six months were suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit another offence involving physical abuse that attracts a jail term without the option of a fine.
The remaining 12 months were suspended on condition that he completes 420 hours of community service at Matjinge Clinic, starting on 13 February 2026.
Sheila Nyathi prosecuted.
The jail term may be the least of Ncube’s worries, as African belief holds that no court can shield a man from curses earned by disgracing his own mother.
