LONDON. – Manchester United are in talks with Bayern Munich over a sensational swap deal involving Angel di Maria. German daily Bild are reporting that the Bundesliga giants are desperate to land Di Maria, but are unwilling to fork out close to £40 million to make it happen.
Now they are working on proposals to convince United to part with the Argentine for well below their asking price.
Bild say Bayern have held talks with United over a potential swap involving Mario Gotze or Bastian Schweinsterger – but Thomas Muller is off the table.
Sport Bild journlaist Christian Falk said: “Negotiations [between] FC Bayern and Man Utd for Di Maria: No to transfer for Muller.
“Now the Clubs talk about Mario Gotze or Schweinsteiger”
The Red Devils were tipped to launch a £60 million bid for Muller after rumours of a bust up between the forward and boss Pep Guardiola but whether they can convince Bayern to sell him remains to be seen.
United paid a British-record £59,7 million to Real Madrid for Di Maria 12 months ago but he’s failed to live up to that high billing.
Louis van Gall could be tempted to cut his losses and bring in one of the World Cup winning duo.
Manchester United are also poised to sign Italian international Matteo Darmian in a £12 million deal from Torino.
United have agreed a fee with the Italian outfit and will offer Darmian a long-term deal worth around £100 000-a-week.
Darmian will travel to Manchester next week to undergo a medical and discuss the finer details of his personal terms.
United boss Louis van Gaal has turned to Darmian (25) to solve his right-back problem after missing out on Dani Alves, Nathaniel Clyne and Seamus Coleman this summer.
Alves decided to sign a new deal at Barcelona, Clyne snubbed United in favour of joining Liverpool and Van Gaal found himself priced out of a move for Coleman after Everton valued him at around £30 million.
With the transfer nearing completion, Darmian has written a letter to Torino fans wishing them farewell and thanking them for their support.
“The day has come, after three years fantastic leave Turin. Wonderful three years where I learned to play, have fun and I learned above all to live!,” Darmian wrote in www.torinogranata.it
“Right now I have no words, I’m just crying. Remember that I leave Turin for a future career choice, not because I am evil.
Turin will always be my second home, I never tire of her (Turin). I wish good luck to all the team and the fans.
“I gave all of my heart and my soul.
It was an honour to play for Torino and also be in a few games the captain!” – The Daily Star.
