Manchester United are on the brink of parting ways with Mason Greenwood and Donny van de Beek as part of an eight-player transfer fire-sale.
It has long been touted that United are open for business this summer, with the club open to selling most of their players should the right offer arrive. The club have entered the summer window with a modest £50million budget that can be added to with player sales.
With progress being made in their quest to sign Joshua Zirkzee, who is available if his £34m release clause is activated, United are targeting a central defender, midfielder and forward. Sir Jim Ratcliffe and directors Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox will make use of player sales to achieve greater flexibility in the transfer market.
Mirror Football understands that Mason Greenwood is close to leaving the club. Greenwood reported to United’s training complex on Monday for a “constructive” meeting with football executives, aimed at finding him a new club.
United are hoping for between £30m and £35m or Greenwood. The forward now looks set to join Marseille.
Van de Beek, who arrived in a £35m deal in 2020, is also set to depart with Girona finalising terms. The Daily Mail has claimed that a deal worth £450,000 has been agreed, that could rise to £16m, and also includes a sell-on clause. The publication goes on to claim that as many as eight players could be on their way out this summer.
Jadon Sancho, who spent the latter half of 2023/24 on loan at Borussia Dortmund after a public falling out with Erik ten Hag, is also likely to depart. The England international joined the club for £73m but struggled to hit the ground running at Old Trafford and could depart for a fee in the region of £40m. Juventus are said to be leading the chase for the 24-year-old.
United’s players appear to be in demand with Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbahce interested in Victor Lindelof, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka is being monitored by Galatasaray and West Ham.
Facundo Pellistri could be set for a return to Spain after spending time on loan at Granada last term. Real Valladolid are said to be considering a move.
Former Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro could still be sold too. The club are believed to have an interest in cashing in on Saudi Pro League interest to unburden themselves of the Brazilian’s £375,00-a-week salary.
While United would be more reluctant to sanction a sale, Scott McTominay appears to haven emerged as a target for Fulham and Everton. The Scotland midfielder wants a first team place, but United turned down a £30m bid last summer. — Mirror.
