A 20-year-old Waterfalls man in Harare who broke into houses in his neighbourhood stealing valuables worth $2 614 last week pleaded guilty to six counts of unlawful entry when he appeared before Mbare magistrate Mr Reward Kwenda.

Mike Chitsungo of number 153 Stoneridge, Waterfalls said he ended up stealing since he had no other means to fend for his family.

“I apologise for what I did. I wanted to take care of my family. My wife and I have a two-month-old-baby and I wanted to take care of them,” he said.

Mr Kwenda remanded him in custody to December 30 for sentence.

On November 7, Chitsungo broke into Memory Anderson’s house and stole kitchenware worth $141 and went away unnoticed.

In the second count Chitsungo broke into another house and went away with property worth $1 114.

At one point Chitsungo broke into a parked car using an unknown object stealing cash which was in the dashboard.

All the offences were committed during the night.

In all the six counts, Chitsungo stole property worth $2 614 and property worth $616 was recovered.

Chitsungo was arrested after police carried out investigations and he also helped the police to identify some of the stolen property.

Mr Gerald Date prosecuted.
