VILLAGERS in Zaka were left shell-shocked when a 33-year-old man allegedly assaulted his wife to death with a switch for relocating while he was away. Crispin Tivayo of Rusaniko Village under Chief Nhema was arrested after allegedly assaulting to death and burying his wife Mashindu Chishikau (19) at a nearby river bank.

Masvingo police spokesperson Inspector Peter Zhanero confirmed the incident. It is alleged that on July 7, Tiyavo returned home from South Africa and learnt from his mother that Chishikau was now staying with a female friend, Alestina Chekenyere (46).

The accused went to Chekenyere’s house looking for his wife and was told that she had visited another friend in the same village. It is alleged that the accused followed his wife where she had visited and assaulted her. However, other villagers who were at the scene managed to restrain him.

While the accused and his wife were on their way home, he allegedly continued assaulting Chishikau leading to her death and he subsequently buried her body at Mutozi river bank.

The body of the deceased was only discovered on July 17 by a passerby who then made a report to the police.
