THE man who plunged to his death from a tower light in Chiredzi on Monday was mentally-challenged, police in Masvingo have said.

John Zenda (38) was said to have left his home in Three Hectares and climbed a tower light in Nody Flats before plummeting to his death. Masvingo acting provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Lorraine Ndhlovu, has urged people living with mentally-ill individuals to closely monitor them and ensure that they take their tablets on time.

“Police can confirm the death of a Chiredzi man who fell from a tower light. Some residents grouped around the tower persuading him to climb down and while climbing down, he slipped and plunged to the ground.

“He sustained head injuries and excessive bleeding and was rushed to Chiredzi Hospital where he was pronounced dead on admission,” she said.

A witness recorded a video of the incident and posted it on social media where it’s doing the rounds.
