MANAMA High School hosts the Matabeleland South National Association of Secondary Heads (Nash) inter-district athletics competition this morning.
The event will be used select athletes to represent the province at the national finals in Mutare on March 17 and 18.
Nash vice-president Arthur Maphosa, who is also the Gwanda High headmaster, declared Manama ready for the athletics meet that will see eight districts, Gwanda North, Gwanda South, Beitbridge, Matobo, Bulilima, Mangwe, Umzingwane and Insiza competing. Mangwe are the defending champions.
“All the districts are in Manama and we are looking forward to a good meet. Besides selection of provincial representatives, this meet will give our coaches a clear picture in terms of preparing a training programme before the national finals. As a province, we have to improve from last year’s performance and bring glory to Matabeleland South,” Maphosa said.
Matabeleland South finished sixth at last year’s national championships.
