OLD Hararians coach Cyprian Mandege believes his side could have done better during their tough tie against Old Georgians in a Lion Lager Rugby showdown at the weekend. Hosts Old Boys beat OGs 28-23 with flanker Tawanda Chowe impressive while the rest of his teammates provided great support for the hard-earned points. “A win is a win but I feel they could have done better.

“It was good to get a victory but I feel we did not play very well. I believe they must do better if we are to win the league in the coming matches,” said Mandenge. Scrum-half Tichafara Chidongo was one of the players who were outstanding. Old Boys captain, Tichafara Makwanya, kicked home seven penalties and a conversion.

They led at the break 19-13.
Makwanya said all they wanted was a win.

“The match was interesting, all we wanted was a win and we got it but we could have scored many tries instead of relying on penalties only,” said Makwanya. Old Boys are on top of the table after winning 12 out of the 13 matches for a total of 63 points.

Old Georgians are second with 61 points while defending champions Harare Sports Club have 52 points after winning 10 out of the 14 matches they have played.

Mat Warriors are fourth with 38 points. Meanwhile, the Lion Lager National Rugby League semi-finals will be played on September 28 at Old Georgians.
