ZIMBABWEAN golfers Mohammad Rauf Mandhu and Sheldon Steyn booked a place in this week’s Eye of Africa PGA Championship, which tees off tomorrow. The players took part in the qualifying round held at the Glevista Country Club in Johannesburg yesterday and will join other exempted local players in Mark Williams, Marc Cayeux and Ryan Cairns.

Mandhu was the first to make the cut after he carded a two-under-72 in the qualifying round. The former Royal Harare top amateur finished tied in sixth place with Nigeria’s Andrew Odoh while Steyn was a shot behind at one-under 71.

Nyasha Muyambo was beaten in the play-offs after he finished at level par which was the projected cut. Also in the field were Greg Bentley, William Lake and Dean Nysschen who all failed to make it through. The main tournament will be held at the Eye of Africa Signature Golf Estate in Johannesburg from tomorrow until Sunday.

Erik van Rooyen is the defending champion after he defeated Makhetha Mazibuko and Dylan Frittelli in a sudden-death play-off after they all carded 16-under-par 272 in regulation at last year’s tournament.
