NYANGA South legislator, Honourable Supa Mandiwanzira, has urged local and international investors to consider Nyanga as an investment destination, highlighting the district’s abundant resources and skilled labour force.
Honourable Mandiwanzira, who is also ZANU PF national secretary for Local Government and Devolution, called for intensified efforts towards beneficiating from natural resources in Nyanga, ensuring that local communities directly benefit through employment creation and entrepreneurship opportunities.
Speaking on the sidelines of a Boys Dzamudhara event in Nyanga recently, Honourable Mandiwanzira said Nyanga is rich in natural resources, and has untapped potential that could be unlocked through strategic investments in agro-processing, timber manufacturing, and tourism.
“We are encouraging investors to come to Nyanga because there are plenty of opportunities here. It is time for our people to be empowered, and we can only do that if the investments come to them. We want investors to come and establish businesses that add value to what we already produce here from potatoes and tomatoes to timber and minerals.
“With the right investment, Nyanga can be transformed into an industrial hub that exports finished goods instead of raw produce. That means more jobs for our youths, more income for our farmers, and a better future for everyone in the district,” he said.
Honourable Mandiwanzira emphasised the need for Nyanga’s resources to benefit its youths and people.
“We have timber, but it is not benefiting this district. Instead, it is processed in cities like Mutare, Harare and Bulawayo. We need to value-add timber here, creating jobs and selling finished products elsewhere,” he said.
To achieve this, Honourable Mandiwanzira proposed for the establishment of carpentry works and furniture-making factories within the district to process timber locally.
He revealed that foreign investors have expressed interest in setting up such projects, which will create the much-needed employment.
In addition to timber, Honourable Mandiwanzira highlighted the district’s rich agricultural produce, but noted that farmers struggle due to long distances to viable markets.
“We want value addition done here, with factories to make canned tomatoes, pickled onions, and processed potato products, right here in Nyanga,” he said.
He praised the Second Republic, led by President Mnangagwa for implementing people-centred policies promoting inclusive development and empowering rural communities. He stressed the need for full policy implementation at the grassroots level, especially in Nyanga.
“We want the opportunities and policies made possible by our Government and leadership to be implemented on the ground. President Mnangagwa’s mantra that ‘no one and no place will be left behind’ includes Nyanga. When jobs are created here, women, men, and youths will benefit, uplifting families and raising the district’s, province’s, and nation’s GDP,” he said.
