A Harare man suspected to be part of a gang of MDC-T members accused of assaulting the party’s suspended deputy treasurer-general, Mr Elton Mangoma, yesterday appeared in court.
Denford Ngadziore (32) of Glen View 8 in Harare appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe facing assault charges.
He was remanded to April 14 on US$200 bail. The other five -Francis Machimbidzofa (38), Enock Mukudu (31), Stefani Jahwi (36) and Samson Nerwande (41), Paul Gorekore (31) – have since appeared in court on the same charges.
It is alleged Ngadziore and the other five waylaid Mr Mangoma outside Harvest House at the corner of Nelson Mandela Avenue and Angwa Street.
It is alleged the group accused Mr Mangoma of wanting to topple party leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai.
The State alleges that they punched and slapped Mr Mangoma all over his body at the party’s headquarters as he tried to get into Mr Tsvangirai’s car.
He is said to have bled from the nose, his shirt was torn while his spectacles – worth US$300 – were damaged.
This brings to six the number of suspects who have appeared in court so far in connection with the alleged assault that took place outside MDC-T’s headquarters in Harare.
