adminThe Parliamentary Thematic Committee on Peace and Security had invited the minister on four occasions since March to inquire on Zesa operations and allegations of corruption at the parastatal and power supply to winter wheat farmers.
However, Minister Mangoma only appeared before the committee last week, claiming he had seen only one invitation.
Peace and Security Committee chairperson Cde Damian Mumvuri (Zanu-PF) yesterday said their investigations revealed that Minister Mangoma received the four invitations.
“Our investigations have revealed that he (Minister Mangoma) got all the correspondence.
Last week Cde Mumvuri said his committee contemplated preferring contempt of Parliament charges against the minister.
He said the Senators were riled by the minister’s apparent arrogance towards their invitations.
Under the Powers and Privileges of Parliament Act, Parliament is empowered to jail people who commit contempt against it for up to two years.
Minister Mangoma on Tuesday failed to appear before the committee again amid indications that he was in Cabinet.
The committee, Cde Mumvuri said, excused Minister Mangoma because Cabinet took precedence over Parliamentary business.
He said Minister Mangoma was going to appear before the committee in the next session.
