Government Departments operating in Mangwe District have appealed for resources as lack of enough support was curtailing efforts to provide effective service delivery.
The heads of Government Departments raised this concern during a meeting with the Mangwe representative in the National Assembly who is also the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Cde Obedingwa Mguni last week.
Speaking after the meeting, Cde Mguni said the worst affected departments were in the ministries of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development, Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises and Ministry of Youth, Indigenisation and Empowerment.
He said heads of Government departments who spoke during the meeting said they needed vehicles to conduct field visits, computers and manpower.
“I held a meeting with HODs from my district where I was trying to establish why they are failing to deliver as expected. What I gathered is that the departments have a challenge of resources constraints. Mangwe is a rural district and departments are expected to conduct field visits regularly but they are failing because they don’t have vehicles. As a result most departments perform office work which is not enough,” he said.
Cde Mguni said the Ministry of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development officers pointed out that they needed a vehicle, the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises officer was under staffed as they only had one person for the entire district. He said the district SMEs officer does not have a computer, stationery and other crucial resources to perform his duties.
He said under the Ministry of Youth, Indigenisation and Employment Creation youths were failing to access loans from CABS bank as the institution didn’t have money.
He said some departments had one officer who was doubling up for Mangwe and neighbouring Bulilima District. Cde Mguni said he was set to engage his fellow Ministers to ensure that rural communities were well resourced.
