CAPS United coach Taurai Mangwiro believes the Green Machine are in prime position for a serious fight for the championship this season if only they can get their away form right.
Makepekepe recorded their biggest win this season when they thumped Shabanie Mine 3-0 at the National Sports Stadium to move two places up the charts into sixth place. They are five points adrift of log leaders Hwange who lead the table with 22 points.
“I would like to believe this time around we will be able to turn things around. It is these back-to-back victories that would see us launch formidable challenge going into the second round of matches,” said Mangwiro. “We would need to finish the first round of matches on a high.
“We cannot afford to end the first round matches without an away victory. We will do our homework and see how best we can grind a result come Chiredzi this weekend.”
Pervington Zimunya and Gerald Phiri scored their first goals for the Green Machine while Ronald Pfumbidzai grabbed his fourth goal of the season.
“We had to bounce back. To be honest we were just careless in the manner in which we conceded in our last match at Chapungu,” said Mangwiro.
“Otherwise in terms of overall show we were high up but the only difference perhaps being the conversion rate.”
The Premier Soccer League also used the match for the trial run of the proposed electronic ticketing system to be used to control the gates. “We had two different companies doing the demonstration and so far we have heard a report from Zvishavane and we are still waiting to get the other from the CAPS United game,” said PSL chief executive Kenny Ndebele.
“From the feedback we got from Zvishavane everything went on smoothly, there were no hitches whatsoever.
“Besides, this e-ticketing system is important for audit trail. You could actually follow the progress on the ticket sales from the computer in the office.”
