Police have launched a manhunt for four armed robbers, including two women who robbed a motorist of his Honda CRV vehicle, two cellphones and US$50 after being offered a lift in Harare on Monday night.
The four robbers were offered a lift near Boka Auction Floor on the pretext that they were going to Southlea Park in Harare. Along the way, the gang manhandled the victim before robbing him and dumped him. A report was then made to the police who are still looking for the robbers.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.
“The ZRP is investigating a robbery case which occurred at Marirangwe turn off along Beatrice road, Harare on December 13, 2021, where a 48-year-old man lost a Honda CRV vehicle registration number ACV 5783, two cellphones and a wallet containing US$50, after he offered a lift to two men and two women at Boka Auction Floors on the pretext that they were going to Southlea Park.
“Anyone with information to contact any nearest Police Station,” he said.
This is not the first time that women have been involved in armed robbery cases countrywide.
In February, police arrested six suspected armed robbers, including a woman for committing a spate of crimes in Chiweshe while armed with a machete and a pistol. The six were arrested in Bulawayo in connection with several cases under investigations.
The suspects were Life Hahlani of Newton West, Bulawayo; Mqondisi Akim Sibanda of Nketa 9, Bulawayo; Adonia Mashonga of Mpopoma, Bulawayo; Vusumuzi Reynolds Dube of Nketa 9, Bulawayo and Joice Loswita Ndarova of Kuwadzana in Harare.
In March, a suspected female armed robber who was part of an eight-member gang that has been terrorising people in Harare, Mutoko and Macheke, was shot and killed following a shoot-out with police in Kuwadzana on Wednesday.
Police arrested seven of her accomplices who have been identified as Kudzanai Manyonga (35), Tonia Farai Ndoro (27), Prosper Magwejani (44), Gilbert Chikukwa (54), Chancellor Thandi (40), Robinson Chinhuka (42) and Amiah Chayi (18).
The female armed robber was identified as Lucy Nyakudya (20).
Investigations revealed that on March 23, at about 0300 hours, the suspects together with Lucy Nyakudya stormed a house in New Marimba, Harare, armed with a big hammer, bolt-cutter and a pistol before robbing the occupants of US$500 cash, iTel P37 cellphone with Econet line and a 42-inch television set.
