The Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson, Sergeant Loveness Mangena, said sometime in April, the two suspects were intercepted at Beitbridge Border Post while coming from South Africa.
One of them was carrying a satchel.
On being searched by a police officer manning the exit gate, a Taurus Brasil .38 special revolver was found hidden in their bag.
The firearm was loaded with three rounds of ammunition.
“The two suspects were coming from South Africa and they did not have passports. While they were being searched by our officer at the northern exit gate at Beitbridge Border Post, a firearm was discovered prompting the two men to flee from the scene,” said Sgt Mangena.
Police also found a cellphone with a South African sim card and it contained photographs of one of the suspects.
Sgt Mangena said one of the suspects was wearing a black T-shirt, a black woollen hat and earrings.
He is dark in complexion, short and of medium built while the other was slim and light in complexion.
“We would like to believe the suspects could be linked to a syndicate that targets people using undesignated entry points along the Limpopo River to cross into South Africa. We are still investigating,” she said.
“We have since launched a manhunt for the two suspects. As police we are also appealing to anyone with information on their whereabouts to contact Detective Constable Mabiza on 0777892231 or 0286-22360. Alternatively they can visit any nearest police station,” said Sgt Mangena.
